What we do

Care decisions, explained one step at a time.

Guardian Guide is an independently run trial service. It is not currently operated by a company, council, NHS organisation or care provider.

It helps families understand what to do when an older loved one may need more care or support.

Care decisions often arrive suddenly. You may be worried about falls, memory, eating, medication, personal care, safety at home, or whether you can continue providing care. You may also be dealing with unfamiliar words and different organisations.

Guardian Guide asks simple questions, uses the person’s postcode to find the relevant council, explains the support you can ask about, and gives you clear next steps and words you can use when you call.

We explain care terms in plain language and give examples where they help. We do not diagnose conditions, decide what care somebody needs, or replace a qualified professional.

You do not have to work everything out at once.

Guardian Guide helps you understand what is happening and take the next sensible step.
